Movie Description:
That’s big news for Suriya fans 🔥 Karuppu finally making it to screens after all those financial hurdles is a win in itself.
RJ Balaji directing a power-packed mass entertainer with Suriya is exactly the comeback vibe fans were waiting for. The delays might’ve tested patience, but they also built serious hype.
Plot :
The movie opens with a North Chennai robbery case which slowly exposes the layers of deep-rooted corruption in the legal and police systems.
The film’s central character is the god Karuppu, who is worshipped by those who seek justice in a court complex controlled by lawyer Baby Kannan (RJ Balaji). Karuppu, unable to bear the injustice around him, takes a human form as lawyer Saravanan, played by Suriya.
The first half works, largely due to Suriya’s commanding screen presence and a few well-mounted moments of elevation. The writing is initially quite gripping and the actor infuses energy and intensity into scenes that work quite well for the fans of commercial entertainers.
But the film loses steam in the second half. The screenplay starts well after the interval but eventually becomes predictable and doesn’t have the emotional or dramatic payoff it’s looking for.The story is run of the mill but a few punchy dialogues keep you hooked and give you some memorable moments.
Conclusion :
Karuppu follows a familiar commercial template that might be more attractive to mass-centre audiences. The movie is more of RJ Balaji style of filmmaking than a full-blown Suriya movie and ultimately leaves viewers hoping that the star could have been used better.
Rating : 2.75/5
