Movie Description
After winning audiences as an actor, Vishal is stepping into the director’s chair with Makutam. The film stars Anjali and Dushara Vijayan in prominent roles and has arrived in theatres today. Let’s find out how the film turns out.
Story
Krupa (Vishal) falls in love with Jamuna (Dushara Vijayan) and eventually marries her. He leads a modest life with his wife and their two children while working as a medical representative for a limited salary of just Rs. 25,000 a month. Wanting to impress his father-in-law, Krupa lies about owning a BMW and eventually buys one to keep up the pretence.
After a series of unexpected developments, Krupa takes his family to Ooty in their new car. However, their trip takes a tragic turn when they are attacked, resulting in the deaths of his wife and daughter.
Why would a man with such a modest income become the target of a deadly attack? What is the real motive behind it? Who are Linga (Vishal) and Annapoorna (Anjali), and how are they connected to Krupa? What twists and revelations unfold as the story progresses? The film explores the answers to these questions.
Artists Performance
Vishal is decent in his role, which seems tailor-made for him, and he performs it effectively. He also plays the father’s character, but his look and makeup appear awkward on screen. It would have been better if another actor had been cast in the role.
Dushara Vijayan is fine in her part, while Anjali doesn’t make much of an impression visually and delivers her dialogues with excessive loudness. John Vijay is adequate in his role, and Jaya Prakash makes his presence felt. The rest of the cast, including Ajay, Vamsi Krishna, Abu Salim, Arjai, Jhansi, Padam Kumar, and Sabhumon, deliver performances that suit their respective roles.

Technical Aspects
Richard M. Nathan’s cinematography is one of the better technical aspects of the film. He captures the important scenes and action sequences effectively, complementing the story and its progression. However, the editing fails to maintain the required pace and falls short of expectations. GV Prakash Kumar’s songs are just about okay, while his background score stands out and elevates several sequences.
As a writer and director, Vishal fails to deliver the film effectively, as the writing and execution do not live up to the premise. Producer R.B. Choudary deserves credit for presenting the film on a lavish scale without compromising on the production values. The overall production quality is impressive.

On the whole, Makutam is an outdated action-emotional drama that fails to make an impact. While the film has a decent emotional core and conflict, the writing and execution do not establish them strongly enough to connect with the audience.Overall, Makutam fails to deliver and can be safely skipped.
