The latest Telugu rural crime-comedy web series Memu Copulam is now available for streaming on the OTT platform Zee5. Story
In the village of Mahadeva Pattanam, village head Gajapathi Raju (Nagababu) is extremely attached to his prized fighting rooster, SalAar Raju. Ahead of the Sankranti cockfights, he throws a grand party for the villagers.
However, after the celebrations, the rooster mysteriously goes missing. The responsibility of finding the bird falls on SI Ravi (Raviteja Nannimala) and Constable Mohan (Getup Srinu). Meanwhile, several villagers suddenly fall seriously ill and end up hospitalized.
Who kidnapped Salaar Raju? What caused the mysterious illness in the village? What illegal activities are taking place there, and who is behind them? The series revolves around finding answers to these questions.
Artists Performance
One of the major highlights of the series is the entertaining chemistry between Getup Srinu and Raviteja Nannimala. Portraying naive and confused policemen, the duo delivers several fun moments with their effective comic timing. A few rural-based dialogues and situational misunderstandings land quite well and add to the humor.
Nagababu, who appears in a crucial role, provides solid support with his engaging performance. The rural setting and village politics occasionally click, while the concept of crafting a crime comedy around a fighting rooster comes across as fresh and intriguing.
The supporting cast, including Siri Parvathi, Charan Lakkaraju, Rithu Chowdary, and Keeriti Damaraju, perform convincingly within their respective roles. Director Pradeep Maddali chose an interesting premise for the series, but the screenplay could have been more gripping and engaging. A stronger balance between the comedy and crime-thriller elements would have made the narrative more impactful.
The cinematography does a good job of capturing the rustic village atmosphere authentically, while the background score effectively enhances several comedic moments. However, the editing feels uneven at times, with a few lengthy scenes requiring tighter trimming. The overall production values are satisfactory.
