Story
Venkatalaxmi (Anupama Parameswaran), a college-going girl, is deeply in love with Sanju alias Sanjay (Viraj Ashwin). Though he is the son of a corporator, Sanju prefers to lead an independent life with self-respect and manages a coffee shop on his own. Despite loving him wholeheartedly, Venkatalaxmi never reveals her feelings.
Her life takes an unexpected turn when she befriends Mareechika (Regena Cassandrra), an NRI woman. To Venkatalaxmi’s surprise, Mareechika and Sanju grow close and eventually get married. However, things spiral into chaos when Mareechika suddenly murders Sanju. Shocked by the incident, Venkatalaxmi approaches the police.

Artists Performance
The story of Mareechika largely revolves around the characters played by Anupama Parameswaran, Regina Cassandra, and Viraj Ashwin. Anupama delivers an impressive performance in a role that carries subtle negative shades despite appearing innocent and positive initially. Her de-glam makeover suits the character well, and she particularly shines in the police station episodes where she gets to display different emotional layers.
Regina Cassandra appears as an NRI woman with a distinct accent and mannerisms. While her slang feels unique, the same freshness is missing in her overall performance. Viraj Ashwin fits the lover-boy role reasonably well, but he struggles in scenes that demand smartness and cunning expressions. Supporting actors Ajay Ghosh, Vadlamani Srinivas, and Thagubothu Ramesh do justice to their respective roles.
Technical Aspects
Ilaiyaraaja’s music is passable, while his background score manages to elevate a few important scenes effectively. Aravind Kannabiran’s cinematography is decent, and the film maintains acceptable production standards throughout. However, the editing feels uneven and could have been much tighter.
Lakshmi Bhupala comes up with an interesting premise, but the execution fails to make a strong impact on screen. Though a handful of moments click in this psychological thriller, a major portion of the narrative ends up feeling flat and uninvolving.

On the whole, Mareechika ends up as a below-par psychological thriller that struggles to keep the audience engaged. While the core concept and mystery elements had potential, the narration lacks the intensity needed to make the film gripping. Regina Cassandra, Anupama Parameswaran, and Viraj Ashwin deliver sincere performances, but the slow screenplay, ineffective investigation scenes, and flat execution weaken the overall experience, resulting in a rather dull and forgettable film.
