The first female superhero film from the Prashanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), Mahakali, has unveiled its first glimpse, promising a grand and visually spectacular cinematic experience. Directed by debutant Puja Aparna Kolluri and starring Bhoomi Shetty in her first lead role, the film presents a powerful world inspired by Indian mythology.
The glimpse introduces Akshaye Khanna as Sukracharya, a formidable antagonist who seeks justice for the Asuras and plans to unite them against the gods and humanity. Opposing him is Mahakaali, who rises against the forces of evil to restore balance and peace to the universe. The final visual, featuring a fierce Mahakaali with multiple arms while feeding a baby, stands out as one of the glimpse’s most striking moments.

The impressive visual effects and massive scale are major highlights, while Akshaye Khanna’s intense and menacing appearance adds further intrigue to his character. Smaran Sai’s powerful background score enhances the grandeur of the visuals and gives the glimpse an impactful feel.
Produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under RKD Studios, Mahakali features an ensemble cast including Khushbu Sundar, Shriya Reddy, Samuthirakani, Rakesh Bedi, Rajat Kapoor, Nassar, Murali Sharma, Prudhviraj and others. Netflix has already acquired the film’s OTT rights ahead of its theatrical release.

Mahakali is scheduled to hit cinemas on January 8, 2027, releasing in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. The film will also be presented in premium formats such as IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema, ICE, D-BOX, 4DX and ScreenX, underlining its ambitious scale and visual spectacle.
