Movie Description
Vikram Sahidev’s Anakapalli, directed by Khagesh Tammineni, hit the screens today. The film combines a young man’s love story with a crime backdrop and features Sandhya Vasishta, Tarak Ponnappa, Trinadha Rao Nakkina and Indraja in key roles.
Story
Surya (Vikram Sahidev) is a carefree youngster from Anakapalli who enjoys his college life. His life takes a different turn after he becomes influenced by Bullet (Tarak Ponnappa), a well-known criminal in the area. Seeing Bullet as his inspiration, Surya slowly gets drawn into the world of crime.
At the same time, Surya falls in love with Amrutha (Sandhya Vasishta). He tries hard to impress her and eventually succeeds in getting close to her. However, things become complicated when Surya discovers that Amrutha shares a connection with Bullet.
What is the actual relationship between Amrutha and Bullet? How does Surya react after learning the truth? What happens to his love story, and how far is he willing to go for Amrutha? The film answers these questions.
Performances
Vikram Sahidev delivers a sincere performance and fits well into the role of a young man caught between love and crime. He performs particularly well in the emotional portions and towards the climax.
Sandhya Vasishta gets a good role and makes her presence felt, especially in the second half. Tarak Ponnappa is impressive as Bullet and brings the required intensity to his character.
Trinadha Rao Nakkina and Indraja are convincing in their respective roles as Surya’s parents. The supporting cast also does a decent job.
What Works
The film has a few engaging moments, especially the interval sequence and some of the romantic scenes. The emotional scenes involving Surya’s mother also work well.
The pre-climax portions have some impact, while the core idea of a youngster going to extreme lengths for the woman he loves has enough emotional potential.
The songs add some value to the narrative, and the cinematography is another positive aspect.
What Doesn’t Work
The biggest problem with Anakapalli is its routine screenplay. Despite having a promising central idea, the film does not develop the characters and conflicts strongly enough.
The love story between Surya and Amrutha could have received more attention and depth. Several scenes feel familiar, and the emotional impact is not consistent throughout.
The second half is particularly slow in places. Some scenes could have been shortened or rewritten to improve the pace. The film attempts to create emotional highs, but not all of them connect effectively.
Technical Aspects
Khagesh Tammineni comes up with a decent concept but struggles to present it in a consistently engaging manner. The screenplay needed more freshness and stronger characterisation.
Davzand’s music is adequate, while the cinematography stands out with some appealing visuals. The editing could have been sharper, particularly in the slower portions.
The production values are good and suit the scale of the story.
Verdict
Anakapalli has a promising combination of love, crime and emotion, along with some good performances and a few effective sequences. However, a routine screenplay, slow second half and limited character development prevent the film from making a stronger impact.
Overall, the film has a few emotional and romantic elements that may connect with audiences who enjoy love stories.
