The ‘Freedom 251’ smartphone scam remains one of India’s most talked-about corporate controversies. Back in 2016, a company stunned the nation by announcing a fully functional smartphone priced at just Rs. 251, at a time when mobile phones were considered a costly investment for many.
The announcement created massive excitement, with the website reportedly receiving over 7 crore registrations. However, the dream of an ultra-affordable smartphone soon turned into a controversy, as the promised devices failed to reach most customers. The incident was later labelled as one of India’s biggest business fraud cases, leaving distributors and vendors with significant financial losses.
Now, drawing inspiration from this unbelievable real-life incident, Telugu OTT platform Aha is reportedly bringing a web series based on the Freedom 251 saga. According to industry sources, the upcoming series is titled ‘Azadi 501’.
Directed by shivateja and produced by Rachana Reddy Mulumudi under the Thursday Cinemas banner, the series features a strong ensemble cast including Teja kalavakota, Harsha Vardhan, Bunty Dwaraka, Shashank, D Geetha Bhascker, Rocky Krishna, and Ravi Varma in key roles.
Aha has been creating curiosity around the project with intriguing promotional teasers, keeping the storyline under wraps. The makers are expected to officially announce the title and premiere date soon.
